Hayek's Road to Serfdom, while well-intentioned, is a completely misguided piece of literature because Hayek never thought in terms of the political compass, but rather in terms of some contrived spectrum of freedom with classical liberalism on one end and communism and fascism on the other end.
Instead of some arbitrary spectrum of freedom, the political compass has two relevant axes, one representing political preference and the other representing economic preference. The economic

Artificial Intelligence does not have to act like human intelligence, and would almost assuredly be better off not acting like human intelligence.
At a WTA meetup, I had the pleasure of having lunch with Eliezer Yudkowsky, an AI programmer from the Singularity Institute. He explained this concept quite nicely, and said he would be wary of creating sentient AI because of the ethical dilemmas it may pose, and also because sentient AI is n

The famous physicist Dr. Stephen Hawking recently asked a question on Yahoo Answers. The question was, "In a world that is in chaos politically, socially and environmentally, how can the human race

Just saw your presentation on the Future of subjectivity on Vimeo.
I really liked it, well done. I especially liked your observation about the ambiguous nature of things. I have always felt the same. We tend polarise things just to make them easier to deal with when actually reality is always more complex than just black-white, good-bad and left-right. I'm not sure about the feasibility of local feedback loops as a way to a global feedback network. I think we might have passed that station and will have to implement it top-down. Working from the ever growing global network to then stabilize it by decentralizing it later. All in all I like your thinking, and am sorry I can't just zip over to the US for a WTA meetup to speak to you in person.
What are your views on cryonics?
I am waiting for processing to be finished on my application to Alcor.
I am trying to build a support network of cryonicists, where we can exchange thoughts and concerns.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Thanks.
