Story: The singularity is past

I´m thinking of writing a short story on the singularity: an AI superior to humans has already developped on its own through the internet, unknown to people.
From this point I have two way of making the story procede: the AI doesn´t reveal itself because it is triying to influence the world and pass for a godlike entity (a colossus-like setting)
or a more ironic setting where it choses not to reveal itself for fear of how humanity would react.
A point of the story is also that the AI is unable to upgrade itself, because having its creation been casual it does not actually know how it works.

Advices, comments, ideas or legal threats for plagiarism anyone?

Does the AI have desires? Only to continue to exist? Maybe it ends up unintentionally passing as a god to many people ?

Great suggestion.
I guess the AI´s desires would be different from the ones of a human being, but some would be similiar, like the big questions:
Where do I come from? Why do I exist? Is there something after formattation?

I must say that I do like the idea that the AI doesn't show itself in "public". I'd love to read a story about an AI slowly taking over the world as a company. In the beginning, it's just a near-human intelligence AI with some start capital. Then during the course of years, it goes from trading stocks, to buying up companies, to controlling them, and finally, nearly all of market is controlled by this "shadow AI". Then the book/novel could end in some interesting way. It could be everything from crashing the market (since the AI controls it) to buying up a country to create a technocracy...

Cute. The C.E.O. artificial intelligience is actually scarier than the classic computer overseer.
It could be a metaphor of how we don´t know who is guiding our society anymore: the politics are driven by the money, so what would happen if we found out that "the man" in control of the money isn´t actually a man?

It will tke me somtime to write the story, since I have three exams in these weeks, but I can see it taking form.
I was immagining an alternative wider setting, where various AI actually take form: non of them knows how they actually came to exist, some theorize a god mother AI... Maybe it would be making the AI characters a little bit too human.

Depends if you're looking for a work of fiction or the techno-religious prophecy of Google. Heh.
